The midterms have gotten me particularly emotional for one reason or another. I’m just a little bit closer to it this week than I have been, I guess. Shout-out to the girls I met from Alabama when I was canvassing in Washington Square Park who were not exactly hopeful but certainly were not giving up on their home state. Shout-out to the felons whose rights in Florida whose rights have been restored, and to the ones in New York and New York City whose rights have not yet been relinquished to them. Also to all of the very nice people who are not US citizens who wished me and us all luck when I bothered them anyway.
We lost a few battles but we won so many that it doesn’t feel fitting to concentrate on the losses this quarter.

Like a bat with a 9 to 5, Mr. Chokkattu hasn’t really slept in two days, so I’m writing this review after cuddling him to sleep at an incredibly early hour (It’s 9PM! Madness!)

Imaginary Authors: Stories IV (Air of Despair)
An Air of Despair’s story reminds me of one its predecessors, the Littmus lozenges in Because of Winn-Dixie, a book about a dog, and the only one I can think of where the dog doesn’t die in the end (and it’s set in suburbia, a stark contrast to Where the Red Fern grows which casually tears your heartstrings apart and chews on them like tobacco set in rural backcountry.) Cheap Fragrances Review – Amazon Edition
Now that I’ve graduated school and have a job, you would think I would be less broke but that assumption is incorrect. Being a hedonist in a city is quite the balancing act, though I think I’ve been balancing it well, and my business school education definitely comes in handy when it comes to budgeting and restraint.
Because of my limited spending money, I think it’s worth taking the time to troll grey market sites and second-hand stores for gems. This time around, I stumbled around on Amazon and ended up picking out three that I thought would be diamonds in the rough.

Just received my little decant of this from a lovely person who decants quite often for cheapskate and indecisive hobbyists like me without trying to make a profit! Frapin 1270 is based off the year the Frapin family established itself in the Cognac region of France, this a is tribute to the creation of cognac.
Barcelona 1.2 (Museo del Perfum)
It’s been one busy week since I’ve been back, but I think I’ve finally gotten back into the swing of things and I’m just hoping I can keep my energy up. I will probably be making tons of lists and setting alarms as well as calendar events this week just to keep track of everything. And it certainly doesn’t help that I haven’t gotten used to organizing and paying attention to several calendars at once.
Anyway, on the first day in Barcelona, we were walking down Passeig de Gracia and we came across Perfumeria Regia which, if you didn’t know, has a backdoor mini-museum of very old perfume bottles that you can ask to see for about €5. I only wish it was more a museum and less of a fairly unorganized (though it does seem to go by years? Except the Chinese stuff is strewn about the room, and most of the bottles don’t have dates next to them) not well-lit, dusty, hodge-podge of someone’s probably meticulously gathered collection. It’s just doesn’t seem very dignified to toss around history like that. It was more a tome than a museum which is a shame.
That being said, I tried to take as many decent pictures as I could with my afraid-of-the-dark camera phone and then edit them to color correct (though a lot of the yellowness/warmth is native to the room) and make sure the bottles are highlighted! Read More
Parfums de Marly: Oajan, Lippizan, Kuhuyan reviews!
Parfums de Marly is another one of those fun contemporary fragrance houses that liken to old traditions; as far back as Louis XV’s prestigious horse races, and as front-facing as the MySpace-esque format and music on their web page. But that’s not a knock; the page has a clean, intuitive look, and I appreciate it over the many companies who believe it should be as difficult and stylistic as possible to learn any information on their pages. I do wish the waltz they’re playing didn’t stop so abruptly before starting over.
Anyway, I have heard good things about this brand, and hope to one day also try Herod and Habdan, as well as see their take on women’s fragrances!

Hey Calvin Klein, the fragrance industry already has a term for “gender-free” fragrance: unisex. I think that you know that, seeing as CK One is unisex.
Unless you just mean your marketing campaign. To which, sure, jump on that wagon before it leaves. The popularity of Orange is the New Black, the media-positive view of Caitlyn Jenner’s transition, and H&M and all of the little companies that have made it safe for the big and the old to do this makes this a decent time to get on. And it really hits that “no labels” thing that millennials like.
