Humans detect one another’s emotional states without body language because of a piece of brain neurologists call the “voice area” that is stimulated specifically when vocal sounds are heard. The brain filters out non-vocal noises like tapping and snapping and pays attention specifically to highs, lows, and the length of what’s being processed. It is located in the back of the brain behind the ears.

Buly 1803 opened as a cosmetic and fragrance store on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. Founded by Jean-Vincent Bully, who had a reputation for welcoming scientific breakthroughs into his cosmetic developing methods, in contrast to many of the old-school perfumers who treated perfumery as artistry and preserved and kept secret old traditions in favor of the new. He invented new methods and new formulas for his products, and was well-regarded as a distiller, perfumer, and cosmetician.
The other week, I bought a custom mix off of Twisted Lily, fragrance boutique and apothecary located online and in Brooklyn. I actually bungled it up a bit since I was supposed to put what I wanted in the order description, and while I had created a list indicating as much in Notepad, I forgot to put the list into the description. I didn’t know I had forgotten either so I delayed the whole process a few days by being a terrible customer, but I did finally reply with my choices, and they sent my choices on over (thanks Stamatis!) In fact, they included two more Tauer samples: Incense Extreme and Incense Rose, and I’m really excited to open those up too!

It’s been humid and sticky and hot where I live since May, but I haven’t really talked about fragrance since I left school.
The article discusses two ways to go about the shimmering heat of the day: going safe and going big.
The boys have been getting into more and more hi-jinks since I last posted about them. Bloo tried to make copies of himself. (With the aid of Mr. Chokkattu of course.)
Fortunately, Bloo, being a stuffed representation of a dog, doesn’t copy well so there is not evidence beyond these pictures of this particular incident.

Last summer’s ice coffee method sweetheart is slowly becoming both mainstream (since Starbucks has picked it up) and losing the favor of hipsters all across the country in favor of a method that’s a lot faster and requires way less planning: the pour-ov– I mean, the Japanese method.
