Paris Je T’Aime (Day 2)

Christ, who’d would post a gallery about the second portion of their trip a month after their trip ended?! What is wrong with that person?

*Cough.*

I’ve been busy okay. And being without proper wifi much of the time doesn’t help a stitch.

Since I’ve gotten back I’ve hit the ground running at 96 Spring St., the Google experiential pop-up shop that I was conscripted to work before my trip. Between my two jobs, plus freelance work, I’ve been slammed for time. Juggling everything is actually beginning to be a problem, so I’m thinking I’ll drop something in exchange for, ya know, my life.

Like a bat with a 9 to 5, Mr. Chokkattu hasn’t really slept in two days, so I’m writing this review after cuddling him to sleep at an incredibly early hour (It’s 9PM! Madness!)

Barcelona Day 2

Finally got to sit down and finish these up! Cut a bit into my sleep time, but a Friday night bar or club would have cut in just as much and I’m not particularly tired. Mr. Chokkattu is fast asleep beside me, on the other hand, and has been for hours now. (While he’s sleeping, make sure to click the link and see his photos! Barcelona Day 1

Some of you may know that every year the Mobile World Congress is held in Barcelona. If you knew that, you’re either Mr. Chokkattu or a huge tech nerd (or both), and as for the rest of you, the Mobile World Congress is held by the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association, a huge network of nearly 800 operators and more than 250 companies in the mobile sphere, every year in Barcelona and is essentially one huge conference with talks, lectures, exhibitions, panels, and demos.

Mr. Chokkattu got to go to this giant annual event and do cool things like interview tech disruptors and play with virtual reality goggles, and I just got a t-shirt.

Just kidding, he flew me out for the weekend immediately proceeding the conference.

I was browsing Kickstarter the other day after watching a video on the Japanese maker movement, reading some of my backed projects’ updates, and flipping through Penpal, a Kickstarter-funded horror novel I discovered and backed a while back, when I realized that I have never written anything about Kickstarter itself.

Happy New Years + Quebec City Day 1

Happy New Year everyone! I hope your celebrations went well.

We decided to go visit Edgewater and see if we could get a glimpse of the NYC fireworks this year, as well as get shabu-shabu. The display wasn’t as big as we had hoped, but the food was good and we were in good company.

We then drove off to Canada, final destination Quebec City! We stopped by in Montreal for breakfast. Shout-out to the two random guys in a car that offered me weed. I appreciate the sentiment, hope you had a great New Year’s. I did not accept, by the way. We stopped into Second Cup before heading off again.

I admit that I’m a sucker for stories in marketing. I love storytelling and I love creative angles and interesting packaging and pretty, pretty words. I’m optimistic and gullible like that.

When it comes to fragrances, there’s a lot of that. If you’re not already a household name, it’s not like the computer has smell-o-vision, and all you have is that story and the best graphics you can invest in and reviewers writing that they’re being taken to the moon by a whiff. It’s probably why this is my current expensive hobby over something more useful like tech or politics.

Iceland Day 4

This was both the best and worst day of the trip. We started out wonderfully with a lot of time in my new favorite town, Seyðisfjörður, where I finished the Iceland Day 2.2 post in the Hotel Aldan restaurant and had my first taste of reindeer, which was delicious. We kayaked for a couple of hours and met Mr. Hlynur Oddsson, our guide (the kayak guy, as informed by a waitress at Hotel Aldan) who was as kind and as funny as he was educational. Mr. Chokkattu was also able to wash our car for free, which is good because our little 2×4 was definitely begging to get clean after being covered in mud and dust from our drive. We also got to sing in Tvisongur, which we were told means “Double song/singing” and Mr. Chokkattu lent his lovely bass to the environment and I pittered out my minimally trained alto as accompaniment.

Later on, we had a delicious dinner at the Skaftfell visitor’s center, which also housed some interesting local art I recommend checking out if you go. Read More

Miami, Florida: Day 4

Originally we were supposed to just stay out all day, but yesterday’s sun knocked us out about halfway through, so we ended up driving back for some rest at around 4, and stayed there until 10. I did get a tan though, and it was from walking around Wynwood, Miami’s art district.
